The Australian Business Skills migration scheme aims to attract business people with a proven track record of business skills and expertise. To qualify for a Business Skills visa:

  • you will have to demonstrate that you have had a successful business career

  • you have a genuine and realistic commitment to the management of a new or existing business/investment that will benefit Australia

  • you have not been involved in unacceptable business or investment activities.

Business migration applicants must also meet other requirements such as age and assets assessment. Below summarize common business skilled visa sub-classes:

  1. Direct Permanent Residence-Business Talent (subclass 132 visa)

  2. Two-step Business Migration Visas (Provisional)(subclass 160-162 visa)

  3. Government Sponsored Two-step Business Visas (subclass 163-165 visa)

  4. Residence visas: Business Owner or Investor (subclass 890-892 visa)

Free Assessment System 1. Direct Permanent Residence-Business Talent

To be eligible to apply for this visa you must:

  • be under 55 years old

  • have assets in 1 or 2 businesses of no less than A$400,000

  • have at least 10% shareholding in one of above businesses with annual turnover of A$3,000,000 or more, for at least 2 financial years in the past 4 years.

  • have total assets no less than A$1,500,000

  • be sponsored by an Australian state/territory government

  •  

    Note: This visa subclass is extremely hard to get approval. Many states are reluctant to sponsor this kind of visa. Western Australia government is still willing to provide sponsorship to those who meet above criteria and will transfer no less than $3 million within 2 years from the visa approval, including business investments and personal spending.

2. Two-Step Business Migration Visas (Provisional)

These visas include business owner, senior executive and investor. The first stage is a 4 years temporary visa. Applicants can apply for the second stage visa application after establishment of a business for 2 years or investment in a government bond for 4 years. Other general requirements for application of the stage I visas are:

  • Vocational English

  • Less than 45 years old

  • Business owner visa class: total assets A$500,000

  • Investor visa class: total assets of no less than A$2,250,000, and fixed investment of A$1,500,000 in a government fund.

3. Government Sponsored Two-step Business Visas

The government encourages business people to apply under these visa classes. Applications under the state/territory sponsored have much less requirement. Common requirements for these visas:

  • No English requirement

  • No more than 55 years old (higher requirements if you are older than 55 years)

  • Business owner visa class: total assets of A$250,000

  • Sponsored by a state or territory government

  • Net assets for Business owner visa subclass: total assets of A$250,000

  • Net assets for Investor visa subclass: Total assets of no less than A$1,125,000 and fixed investment of either A$750,000 of $1.5 million in a government fund.

4. Residence visas: Business Owner or Investor (Including state government sponsored)

For people who obtained one of the above provisional visas and have invested in Australia and have met certain criteria, they may be eligible to claim the permanent resident visas. Criteria include:

  • Business owner will need to invest and conduct a business for 2 years, with business turnover of no less than $200,000 in at least 1 out of the 2 years.

  • Stay at least 1 year in Australia in the past 2 years.

  • Assets of no less than A$200,000 (government sponsored) or A$300,000 (non-sponsored).

  • May employ 1 (government sponsored) or 2 (non-sponsored) people who are Australian citizen or permanent resident.

  • For investors the requirements include keeping the investment for 4 years and living in Australia for 2 years.
